SUNY Old Westbury Student Government Association Celebrates Nowrooz

April 3, 2009

The Alavi Foundation has granted $700 to the Student Government Association of SUNY Old Westbury. The contribution was made to help offset expenses of a joint program organized by the Persian Culture Club and the Student Government Association. The two organizations held a “Norouz Celebration” program at the University.

In a letter to Westbury Students, Alavi Foundation President, Dr. Houshang Ahmadi, facilitated the students on the occasion and went on to explain that “Nowrooz is a unique holiday that brings all Iranians from different backgrounds, ethnicities, and religions together and gives them a sense of unity and renewal. Additionally, the beautiful and meaningful rituals of Nowrooz in the context of Persian culture and civilization have always coincided with Spring and have added the flavor of cheerfulness and happiness to the occasion for all Iranians.”
